Liz Helms joined Cal Capitol Group as the Director of Outreach to expand the company’s public relations and communications division. Liz has over a decade of experience in the public relations and health advocacy field, with expertise in coalition building, grassroots advocacy, strategic planning and policy development. Her vision and breadth of knowledge of health care issues has made her a leader in the healthcare non-profit and policy making arena, and a recognized advocate both in California and nationally.

Liz’s dedication to improving the healthcare system is a top priority. She became an advocate because of her firsthand experiences in being denied her access to care. Liz currently is the chair of the California Chronic Care Coalition, an alliance of non-profit and provider organizations united to improve the health of Californians with chronic conditions or diseases. She co-founded of the TMJ Society of California, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing about changes in health care practices and laws to improve treatment for TMJ sufferers, is the interim-advisory chair of the Californians for Patient Care and volunteers with various non-profit organizations.

Liz’s forward thinking and vast experience as a public speaker, advocacy trainer and strategic planner has motivated audiences to move outside their comfort zones and reach their goals no matter how challenging. Often representing voluntary health associations, provider groups and consumer organizations, Liz has testified before Congress and the California State Assembly and Senate committees on the issue of patients’ rights and healthcare practices. Currently she has been the catalyst within the chronic disease community to work with Governor Schwarzenegger's health policy division on health care reform.

With a strong background in agriculture (and a former Aggie), Liz is an avid equestrian and spends time in the Sierra Nevada, helping those who are lost or injured on the trail. She is a grandmother to seven and enjoys every minute she spends with them.
